This week it doesn't feel like a lot happened but a lot happened so get ready.
First things first, I gave my companion a flu shot!!!! We did them at mission conference but she had a fever so couldn't get it so we brought it home and I gave it to her! Fun, fun, fun!! We had interviews with President and Sorella Pickerd (something cool Sorella Pickerd does is she meets with us while President meets with our companions which apparently isn't a thing and she just does it! So cute) and they both said that basically all sisters will get a chance to work at the temple. Like we might go up for a week or a little more. We would be in charge of introducing the video they show and giving directions (on script) and probably older sisters with more language experience will also go and answer questions. So exciting!!! Then we super followed the Spirit -- see the question section. I had my first Italian burger and it was wack. We got some for the Anziani and they freaked and said they were so good and Sorella said it was so good. It's not In-N-Out, kids -- I will tell you that. Also a super cute lady we teach and she also does English group gave us a bag of oranges on Tuesday when we met with her. And then said they weren't good so she brought us a whole nother bag! Just cute things. Also I ate five during district council to stay awake! Ouch!
We have this couple we met on Lungo Mare literally my very first week. We said we wanted to show a video to you, can we show it, and he said is it an inappropriate video and then Sorella taught them the law of chastity! Lol. They are super cute. But they said they live super far away so they will call us when they are in Pozzuoli and they totally do every time but it's always like by the time we could walk down there they are leaving so it's just tricky. But we started weekly planning and they said, hey, we are here so we booked it down. And then we could not find them (we didn't know there were two basketball courts so they were at one and we were at the other) so we waited and walked for like 30 minutes trying to find them and we thought we were being tricked and bedoneyed(?) and then we finally met them and got some super yummy hot chocolate and talked with them and then at the end he was like, ok, this is great but I have a lot of questions (then proceeded to ask the questions of the soul, SICK). We taught the Word of Wisdom to E and she said she would start living it but it will be hard! The Saturday we went finding after that and it was GARBAGE! Like we had maybe three gospel conversations in three hours and people were being really rude. One couple, the man was super rude in telling us to go away and the wife just started laughing at us. And we are finally headed home and we finally get to show the Sii Una Luce video and the man is so rude after talking about how there is no God and blah, blah, blah. And I only tell this BECAUSE THAT GUY WAS ON OUR TRAIN THIS MORNING. Love that. Then last night made up for it because we did a mostra (like a poster with a questions and people write their answers) and we talked to like 40 people! It was awesome! The question was Come Sarai Una Luce Per Natale, which means how will you be a light this Christmas.
Also my favourite part of this week is that so many people have told us that we have the light in our eyes. It's the best compliment that I think I have ever received and I know that light comes through Christ. I can feel that when I view people as the Savior views them -- they can see the Savior's love.
Everyone -- please send me insights and things you learn in your scripture/gospel study -- I love those insights so please send them!
The BYU-Utah game sounds like it went exactly as expected.
Mom, thanks for putting our names in at the temple. You are the sweetest. I told my comp that and she smiled. We got your package and its huge..... thank you for sending things for my companion -- she got so excited!!!! You are the best!!!! Don't worry about playing the organ -- sometimes whoever is playing here forgets to play one hand. Also, a music story... a few weeks ago when we had that church tour lesson they saw a hymn book and asked about it and I TOTALLY played Sweet Hour of Prayer for them and they sang and it was awesome! I guess all my piano lessons weren't for nothing!
One quote that my trainer says to me sometimes is vision without work is day dreaming and work with out vision is drudgery. We weren't able to watch the Christmas Devotional last night because of the time change, bit there is a ward pranzo next week and I think after they will play it so maybe then.
Also a lot of the questions overlap so similarly that I could answer with the same exact story but I think I made it.
1. How was church yesterday? Did E come again?
It was good. Italian gets better every week. I sat next to this older Italian woman and she started talking to me and I had no idea what she was saying. Turns out she wanted me to get her coat for her because she left it down. And then she gave me a little book called For the Bride. Lol. We love that and she gave it to me because it was in English. Also E was there!
2. Did you try any new foods this week?
Crochette. Gateaux, more pizza (with a mozzarella di buffala like really good cheese from a buffalo water), hot chocolate - theirs is a lot different and was so good. A good donut thing this morning.
3. How did someone serve you this week? Or show love to you?
The Lassens delivered my packages and gave us a ride - amazing -- so grateful for that. And Sorella D'Onofrio -- we went over there a few weeks ago -- gave us pranzo because she couldn't have us over. Also we went to visit a member and her sister came over and we hadn't eaten yet so she sent us home with stew. Love food! Also the Italians love food.
4. What was the funnest/funniest thing that happened this week?
I gave my companion a shot.
5. What was your happiest moment this week?
Getting the packages and also pizza -- I love pizza.
6. Did you see anything interesting this week?
We did a mostra so a lot of people saw us being interesting!!!!!!!!
7. What stood out to you in your studies this week?
We had our interviews with President this week, and one tip he gave me is to listen to conference talks in Italian for help with the accent because the accent here is so Napolitan. So I just listened to the Joy D Jones one from last conference because I remember liking it and I read it in English again so I would remember before I tried listening in Italian and it hit me hard. A scripture we have literally read so many times (I think it's Mosiah 2:17 - I tell you these things that you may learn wisdom that ye may learn that when you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God) completely changed the way I thought. Which is so good because this is the message we are sharing for Sii Una Luce- to serve others and to be that light, and when we are serving others we get the opportunity to serve Him by serving his children. And I know for a fact I want to serve God. That's why I am here, so why are the little acts of service so hard for me? BUT I started like saying that in my head when I don't want to do something. Like the dishes, just the silly things give us a chance to serve God.
8. How have you seen the hand of the Lord in your life this week?
The Spirit was with us this week. Two huge things in one day. We were walking in the tunnel to our house and I saw a lady and she was carrying like three bags and they didn't look that heavy but I thought we should help her. So I told my companion and she asked her if we could help and insisted that we could help and finally she said yes and then she said, "I can't walk very well and I went to the store but got more than I expected and my legs were in so much pain that I was praying that someone would come and help me when you stopped me." Yes!!!!!! And then also that night Sorella really felt like we should visit a member in our ward who lives close to Lungo Mare where we find and so we did and she definitely needed a visit! She had lymphoma last year and got better but still had really low white and red blood cell levels and ever since the Thanksgiving party she has had a fever and been in bed and she talked about how she just misses the church. We didn't have anything prepared so we said, ok, can we just share our favourite scripture with you and we both turned to Alma 7:11-13 and it was exactly what she needed.
9. Is there anything that we can pray for specifically for you, your companion, and/or the people you're working with?
Gift of tongues, always. Pray for E. We taught her the Word of Wisdom this week and giving up coffee will definitely be difficult. I think it's difficult for all the converts here because it's part of the culture. So pray for her for that and also to receive an answer about being baptized because that is something she is also praying about.
10. Do you know how much I love you?
Always.
11. Do you have any details/information yet about Skyping (or whatever) for Christmas?
Nope.
12. Does the Italian hymnbook have most of the same hymns in it? Does it have any different ones? What about Christmas hymns?
Less hymns but a lot of the same, a few that are only in Italian.
Love you xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo baci baci baci
